In 2028, Los Angeles will become the third city to host the Olympics three times.

The “Entertainment Capital of the World” will once again be at the center of the sporting world, 96 years after hosting the Olympics for the first time and 44 years since its last turn at the global spectacle.

A lot has changed in Olympic sports over those decades, as more sports were added, more countries competed, and women gained more visibility.

The Game Gets Bigger

Los Angeles 2028 will be the longest Olympic Games in history, with competition taking place four days before the Opening Ceremony takes place on July 14. The date is still set as Day 0, meaning the Closing Ceremony will end the Games, as has been the tradition since Los Angeles 1932, on Day 16.

LA 2028 marks the first time that more Olympic quotas have been allocated to women than to men. LA 2028 will have more medal races than any previous Olympics. There will be the 343 sports that are now the core of the Olympic program, plus 10 sports that the organizing committee is proposing to include: cricket, flag football, baseball/softball, lacrosse and squash.

The scene was a far cry from the first time Los Angeles hosted the Olympics nearly a century ago in the midst of the Great Depression. At the time, LA was a relatively remote city, considering the modes of transportation available, so the number of athletes participating was the lowest since the last time the United States hosted the Olympics in St. Louis. Louis 1904. The total athlete quota for LA 2028 is more than eight times the number of athletes who competed in LA 1932.

When Los Angeles hosted the next Olympics in 1984, the 140 NOCs competing was a record at the time. This occurred despite a boycott led by the Soviet Union, which was joined by 13 other countries. LA 1984 provided more opportunities for women to compete thanks to the addition of synchronized swimming (now artistic) and rhythmic gymnastics featuring only female athletes. However, this cannot completely balance the gender gap because many other sports are still reserved for men or are dominated by men’s sports. In LA 2028, there will only be five more events for men than women.

Team Canada at Golden State

Team Canada fielded its largest Olympic team and captured its best ever single Olympic medal at Los Angeles 1984. The swimming team won 10 of those medals, led by Opening Ceremony flag bearer Alex Baumann’s two gold medals won in world record times in the men’s 200m and 400m individual medley events.

The Canadian swimming team has again reached that level of performance, having won eight medals in swimming at Paris 2024. Summer McIntosh is Baumann’s modern-day parallel, setting world records in the women’s 200m and 400m individual medley in 2025 after winning Olympic gold medals in both events the previous year.

Los Angeles 1932 was only the second Summer Olympics at which Team Canada included women, competing in track and field, diving, fencing and swimming. The gender gap has gone the other way over the last four Summer Olympics, with women outnumbering men on Team Canada.

In LA 1932 Phil Edwards won three of the five Olympic medals of his career. This number broke the record for the most Olympic medals won by a Canadian athlete which would not be surpassed until 2006.

Places Revisited

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be the first venue to host the Olympic Opening Ceremony three times. It will also host the Olympic athletics competition for the third time. For the 1932 Olympics, a distinctive 107-foot tall torch was erected where the Olympic flame would burn for the duration of the Games.

Of the two new venues built for Los Angeles 1932, one—Long Beach Marine Stadium—will return to host Olympic rowing competitions after 96 years, as well as canoe/kayak sprints.

Pasadena’s iconic Rose Bowl will host Olympic competition for the third time. In 1932, this is where bicycle racing took place. In 1984, the stadium was one of four stadiums to host Olympic football games, including the gold medal final. The National Historic Landmark will host football again in 2028.

After hosting equestrian competitions during Los Angeles 1932, Riviera Country Club will welcome the world’s best golfers in 2028. As in 1984, equestrian events in 2028 will take place at Santa Anita Park.

Baseball will return as an official Olympic sport in Los Angeles 2028 and will be played at legendary Dodger Stadium, which hosted baseball in 1984 when it was still a demonstration sport.

As was the case in 1932, the voyage would take place in the Port of Los Angeles. Long Beach Arena, which hosted volleyball in 1984, will host the handball competition.

Los Angeles’ Olympic Legacy

Even though some things feel like they have always been part of the Olympics, it has to start somewhere. Some of the current norms were established in 1932 Los Angeles.

We have already mentioned that the Games were the first Olympics to be 16 days long. Previously, no Summer Olympics from 1900 to 1928 were shorter than 79 days, meaning the competition was very spread out and, in some cases, the athletes were not even aware that they had competed in an Olympic event!

At LA 1932, medalists first stepped onto the podium and raised the national flag at the end of the event, thus creating what we now know as the Olympic Victory Ceremony. The previous habit was to wait to give prizes to the winners at the Closing Ceremony, even though many had already left for home. This new concept means that more than 90% of medal winners are actually present to receive their awards.

Automatic timing was introduced in athletics, along with photo finishing. Although stop watches are still used, there are two electric timing devices, one operated by hand and the other by camera, which ensure the accuracy of all results.

Jumping to Los Angeles in 1984, these were the first Olympics since 1896 to be held without government funding and relied heavily on corporate sponsorship. Although the model was criticized at the time, it was soon adopted by future organizing committees. In 1985, the IOC created The Olympic Partners (TOP) program, which grants category exclusive marketing rights to a select group of global sponsors.

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
